About the Work:
"My work is inspired mainly by flawed relationships, motherhood, and generational grief
Recently I've focused on how loss has affected the motherly relationships. In my figurative paintings I breakdown the identity of an individual to specific aspects of the body that reflect an emotion attached to the relationship. I often use flowers, insects and Memento Mori: an object serving as a warning or reminder of death, such as a skull in my work as part of the symbolism in my art.
My practice has transitioned into incorporating mixed media, particularly paper and ceramics because of their tactility and the sense of intimacy it implies when interacting with a domestic object. By incorporating symbolic imagery in my sculptural books I'm exploiting the narrative aspect inherent in book arts. And the materiality of paper and clay help ground my work in nature, accentuating the cycles inherent to motherhood and loss."
